• PCV and Oil Trap Failure

  The crankcase ventilation system is the single most common Volvo failure we see. A blocked oil trap raises crankcase pressure, which pushes oil past seals and gaskets. People often replace the leaking seal and wonder why it leaks again. The correct fix is the oil trap, then the seal.

• Angle Gear on All Wheel Drive

  The angle gear on XC90, XC70 and XC60 needs fluid service that most owners have never been told about. Neglected units wear the input splines and eventually stop sending drive to the rear axle. Fluid service is cheap. A replacement angle gear is not.

• Aisin Transmission Service

  The Aisin automatic used across the range is described as sealed for life, which is optimistic. Fluid and filter service transforms shift quality on higher mileage cars and is far cheaper than a valve body or a rebuild.

• Timing Belt on Five Cylinder Engines

  The older five cylinder engines are interference designs, so a snapped belt means bent valves. We replace the belt, tensioner and water pump together because doing them separately means paying the same labor twice.

• Electronic Throttle Module

  Throttle module faults produce limp mode, erratic idle and a check engine light. On several model years the module is a known failure item rather than a symptom of something else.

• Timing Belt in Oil, Drive-E Engines

  The newer Drive-E engines run a belt in oil for the oil pump drive. It degrades with extended oil intervals and shed material blocks the pickup. This is a good reason not to stretch oil changes on these engines.

• Sunroof and Cowl Drain Blockage

  Blocked drains put water into the cabin and, on several models, into electronics under the carpet. Clearing drains during service is far cheaper than chasing electrical faults caused by damp.

• Suspension Bushings and Control Arms

  Front lower control arm bushings wear predictably and produce a knock over broken surfaces plus vague steering. We replace what has actually failed rather than quoting the whole corner.

Volvo publishes a long oil interval, and on the newer Drive-E engines stretching it has a specific consequence: the oil pump is driven by a belt that runs in oil, and degraded oil shortens its life. Three items make the biggest difference when scheduled rather than left: PCV and oil trap inspection, angle gear fluid on all wheel drive cars, and transmission fluid despite the sealed for life label.
