Engine Repair in Kinnelon, NJ
Noises, leaks, misfires and oil consumption. We find the cause first, because engine work done on a guess is the most expensive way to be wrong.
Diagnosis Before Parts
Engine work is where guessing costs the most. A misfire has a dozen possible causes and only one of them is the part somebody already replaced. So we diagnose with factory level tooling and live data before we quote anything.
We handle the ordinary end of this: gaskets, seals, oil consumption, misfires, cooling related failures and the timing drive. We also do engine builds, which is unusual for an independent shop of our size and comes from the performance side of the business.
What we do not do is take on work we cannot do properly. If your engine needs something outside what we can stand behind, we will say so and point you somewhere sensible.
What Brings People In
A knock, tick or rattle
Where it is in the rev range and whether it changes with load tells us a great deal. We record it rather than working from a description.
An oil leak
Valve cover, oil pan, timing cover or rear main. They cost very differently, so identifying which one is the whole job.
Burning oil smell
Oil reaching something hot. Usually a leak onto the exhaust, occasionally something more serious. Worth checking promptly.
Using oil between services
Measurable and diagnosable rather than something to live with. The correct fix depends on which cause it actually is.
A misfire or rough running
Coils, plugs, injectors, compression or timing. Live data narrows it before any part is bought.
Check engine light with low power
Often a boost, timing or emissions fault putting the engine into a protective mode. It is protecting itself for a reason.

What the Job Includes
- Diagnosis with factory level tooling and live data before any quote
- Compression and leak down testing where the symptoms call for it
- A written estimate that separates what is needed now from what can wait
- OEM quality or genuine parts, your choice
- Engine builds where the job warrants it, using measured clearances rather than assembled by feel
- Warranty options available up to 3 Year / 36,000 Mile on qualifying repairs
How We Do It
- 1
Reproduce the fault
We get the car to do the thing it does, because an intermittent fault described secondhand is not a diagnosis.
- 2
Read live data
Fuel trims, misfire counters, timing and adaptation values from the engine module, not just stored codes.
- 3
Test mechanically
Compression and leak down where the data points that way, so we are working from measurements.
- 4
Quote in writing
What it needs, what it costs, and what can reasonably be deferred.
- 5
Repair and verify
Then we confirm the fix with the same live data we used to diagnose it.
Factory-Level Diagnostic & Programming Capabilities
We hold manufacturer level computer licenses across Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo, Ford, GM, Jaguar and Land Rover, so module coding, adaptations and calibrations happen here rather than being referred out.
Adaptation values matter as much as fault codes on a modern engine. A car that has been running with a fault has learned around it, so clearing and relearning those values after the repair is part of the job. That needs manufacturer level access.
